ABOUT US
The Group for Underwater Exploration and Speleology (GESS) is a Romanian non-profit organization founded in 1981 and registered in 1990. Our main objectives are the exploration, study and conservation of dry and submerged cave systems and the unique life forms they shelter, as well as the education of future generations of speleologists and divers. In the past, we acted as custodians of a number of protected natural areas in various areas; currently we continue these activities in collaboration with ANANP (The National Agency for Protected Natural Areas). Our activities also include ecological education and exploratory diving in open waters and caves.
Over the years, GESS members have participated in numerous domestic and international speleological and cave diving expeditions, discovered ecosystems and species new to science, and written numerous articles and papers published in prestigious scientific journals and books. Their efforts and experience represent an invaluable contribution to unraveling the mysteries and revealing the wonders of the world hidden beneath our feet.
